‘God gave me a second chance…’
• Victim of Boko Haram narrates his experience, calls for help for widows, orphans
THE unabated fury of the deadly Boko Haram sect being unleashed on the Northern part of the country has continued to annihilate families, produce large numbers of widows and orphans .
The sect has unambiguously declared its motive by Islamizing every captured territory.
One of the victims narrated his encounter with the sect.
Habila Adamu, who escaped death by the whiskers, when he was accosted by members of the sect, thanked God for the privilege to be alive to tell his uncommon story, again and again.
Adamu, who spoke under the auspices of the Voice of Christian Martyrs in Lagos, shared the plight of families and innocent souls being wasted in the on-going ‘jihad’ in this modern era as unequivocally declared by Boko Haram sect.
He called on Nigerians to come together and bring an end to the holocaust in the affected areas.
He said: “My name is Habila Adamu. I am from Yobe State. I am happy God has given me a second chance to be alive and to become the voice of the voiceless in Nigeria and other parts of the world. If you look at the way we dress, we are saying that we are not happy with what is happening in Nigeria and other parts of the world.
“Other Nigerians are eating and drinking, politicians are preparing for the 2015 election while some Nigerians are languishing in Sambisa forest. am alive because God wants me to be the voice of the persecuted in Nigeria and other parts of the world.
“This incident happened to me in Potiskum, Yobe State. Members of Boko Haram came to my house at about 11.00 p.m. and ordered me to come out of my house with my family members. Their leader asked, probably because of my stature, if I was a policeman, and I said: No!. He further asked whether I was a soldier or a State Security Service (SSS) officer, to which I also answered in the negative. I told him I was a businessman. He then asked about my religion and I told him I was a Christian. He pleaded with me to renounce my faith in order to live a good live on earth. I told him I would live and die as a Christian. The next thing was to shoot me with an AK 47. The bullet pierced through my nose and I fell faced down. This is the exit of the bullet. One of them stepped on me twice to be sure I was dead. He felt I was dead and he shouted ‘Al-Akbar’. I was there till 7.00 a.m. before I was later taken to a hospital in Jos at about 2.00 p.m. Everybody, including the doctors, said I would not be able to live again but through the special grace of God, I am alive today.
“ I also want to thank the Voice of Christian Martyrs and all the people in the United States of America that paid for my surgery and other expenses.
“I urge our leaders to come together and stop shedding innocent blood. They should rescue the children that are in Sambisa forest, remember those hiding in schools and streets and provide food and shelter for the homeless, the orphans and widows,” he said.
The Director, Voice of Christian Martyrs, Nigeria, Isaac Wusu, wondered why there should be clamour for election in 2015 when some Nigerians who have no other nation other than Nigeria have been sacked by Boko Haram . If Mubi cannot be protected, nowhere in the North is safe,” he lamented.
Wusu, who called on Nigerians to provide succour for widows and orphans in the North, urged them to emulate Oyedepo Foundation, that granted free university education to two of the children of these martyrs.
The Secretary, Christian Nigerian Association (CAN) , Gombe State, Rev. Bulama Samuel described as unpleasant the harassment by Boko Haram Sect in the North that has rendered thousands homeless and destroyed churches while Rev. Daniel Awayi called for help for the large number of widows and orphans forced into their predicament by the activities of the insurgents.
