Sources close to the Minister for Information, Labaran Maku, have revealed that the minister announced his intention to resign from office in order to run for the office of governor of Nasarawa state in the 2015 general elections.
Mr. Maku made the announcement a few minutes ago at St. Patrick’s Catholic Parish, Akwanga, where he told the congregation at a thanksgiving mass that he will resign on Friday this week.
No less than six serving ministers are planning to quit their positions within the next few weeks as the general elections draw closer. The ministers who plan to run for governorship in their states asides Maku are the ministers of Labour, Emeka Wogu who wants to run in Abia; Federal Capital Territory, Bala Muhammed from Bauchi; Education (State), Nyesom Wike for Rivers; Defence (State), Musiliu Obanikoro in Lagos, and Samuel Ortom, who is the Minister of State for Trade, Industry and Investment and wants to be governor of Benue state.
“It is true that some of these ministers I have mentioned are ready to quit the cabinet to pursue their governorship ambitions, they may have to wait until President Jonathan publicly declares interest in the presidential election,” as source said recently.
